Weekend weather looking chilly but dry

Weekend weather looking chilly but dry

The sports fields should remain dry for the many field games this time of the year, from soccer to football to field hockey and more. If you’re starting your game very early in the morning, there may be some dew to contend with, but that would be about it.
On Saturday, most of the suburbs will be in the upper 40s at sunrise, rising to the upper 60s to near 70 around 2 p.m. Under clear skies Saturday night, temperatures fall back to the mid-40s in the suburbs with lower 50s in Boston before rebounding on Sunday toward 70 or a little higher.
The winds will flip to the south Sunday afternoon, but they will still be light. This southerly flow is an indication warmer air is headed into New England next week as temperatures once again approach 80, probably by Tuesday.
Depending on where you are in the region, you might be under an official drought or just drier-than-average conditions. If you’re planning on doing any planting this weekend, I recommend moistening the ground before you put any new plantings in or water those plants that you’re going to move into a new location.
This is also the final weekend, until next March, in which the amount of daylight is greater than the amount of nighttime. The following weekend we’ll have less than 12 hours of daylight as the march deeper into fall continues.
Greater Boston: Look for sunshine both Saturday and Sunday with temperatures starting in the upper 40s to low 50s and highs just under 70 on Saturday and just above 70 on Sunday.
Central/Western Mass.: Temperatures may stay under 70 both Saturday and Sunday, but it will be sunny all day long, with light winds. It’s in the 40s when you get up in the morning.
Southeastern Mass.: Look for temperatures approaching 70 in the afternoon on Saturday, then falling back to the low 50s Saturday night before rebounding to the low 70s on Sunday with sunshine.
Cape and Islands: Light wind and sunshine is the weather story for this weekend, with temperatures approaching 70 both Saturday and Sunday, starting around 50 in the morning.
Rhode Island: Look for temperatures within a degree or two of 70 both Saturday and Sunday, along with plenty of sunshine. Temperatures will be within a few degrees of 50 at night.
New Hampshire: It’s a bright blue sky for both Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures in the upper 60s on Saturday and lower 70s on Sunday. Some areas will start in the upper 30s Sunday morning, with the rest of the state in the 40s.
