Weekend Watch: Texas Book Fest and a Christmas musical

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The second weekend of November brings a concert for the family, a Christmas musical, a way to celebrate your pet, and unites book lovers at the Capitol. This weekend is looking a bit up and down. While no rainfall is expected, Saturday will be a bit warmer with temperatures in the upper 80s, and a front arriving on Sunday, causing our temperatures to drop throughout the day. Sunshine will still dominate the skies. The final concert of the trio of free performances for everyone to attend at Mueller Lake Park Amphitheater, located at 4550 Mueller Boulevard in Austin, on Friday, Nov. 7. The first of two performances kick off at 6:30 p.m. as Big Wy's Brass Band takes the stage. Tele Novella, who will play second, is set to start at 7:15 p.m. They are encouraging everyone to bring water and a blanket to sit on. Also, you are more than welcome to bring a cooler and a picnic blanket as well. The concert is child and dog-friendly as well. For more information and for details on how to get there, be sure to visit their website. Now that Halloween is in the rear-view mirror, it's time to start celebrating a favorite time of year for many people. That's right, we are skipping Thanksgiving and heading straight into Christmas, and what are the holidays without A Charlie Brown Christmas? Opening this weekend, A Charlie Brown Christmas will be running at Zach Theatre through Dec. 28. The story follows Charlie Brown as he searches for the meaning of Christmas. Sounds easy enough, especially with the help of some of his friends. Plenty of music, fun, and spirit. The show is perfect for the holidays. There is a special ASL performance on Sunday, Dec. 7 as well. For more information on the show or for tickets, be sure to visit their website. Just because it's the holidays, doesn't mean you should let health go! In fact, Texas Wellness Day is back at 1601 Jesse E. Segovia Street at Fiesta Gardens. This is a free event for the entire family and will take place on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring your yoga mats, dancing shoes, and your family for a ton of fun events. There will be a trail run, a yoga session, a dance lesson, live music, a wellness market, food trucks, a Kids Zone and more. Plus, there will be giveaways, raffles, and more. Included in all of this fun will be health screenings and wellness education. For more information on the event and to reserve a spot, be sure to visit their website. You personally don't have to be good for this event, but we know your pets are always good. Celebrate your pet with Festival of Good 2025: Pawsitively Good Fall Fun at Goodnight Ranch Amenity Lawn located at 5601 Baythorne Drive in Austin on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free, family-friendly, and pet-friendly. There will be food trucks, live music, local vendors, kids' activities, and plenty for your pet to do. It's all for your pet, who gives you all their love. Plus, Austin Humane Society will be there with information on adoption, wellness, and community resources. For more information on the event, be sure to visit their website. Book lovers unite for this event every year. It's the Texas Book Festival running Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 8 and 9, kicking off at 10 a.m. in and around the Texas Capitol. Over 300 authors will make their way to Austin for this event, which allows book lovers the chance to meet and greet with them or attend panels. The event was created to "celebrate the culture of literacy, ideas, and imagination." While the event itself is free, there are five ticketed sessions, including a session with Chelsea Handler, Jenna Bush Hager, Mitch Albom, Viet Thanh Nguyen, and Matthew McConaughey. Plus, each hour, authors will head to a table and sign your books. For more information on the event and for a full schedule, be sure to visit their website. It's the 6th Annual Fall Festival Mehregan in Austin! Taking place at the Asian American Resource Center located at 8401 Cameron Road in Austin from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, the Persian Fall Festival celebrates friendship, love, and gratitude. There will be plenty of live music, kids' games, face painting, henna art, raffles, prizes, and more. Plus a ton of food, including fresh kababs, stews, baklava, and more to purchase. The best part of all of it is that the event is free for the community. Be sure to bring the entire family, including your pets. For more information on the event, including how you can donate funds, be sure to visit their website. Central Texas is packed with weekend events.
