GREAT BARRINGTON — Caprese Conyers staked Pittsfield High a two-goal halftime lead at Monument Mountain and the Generals finished out a positive week with a 4-1 road win in Grieve League play.
PHS was coming off a scoreless draw at Mount Greylock, but handled the Spartans on Friday. BreJai Ellerbee and Madi Pope scored second-half goals to make it 4-0, before Monument got on the board. Asia Smith-Moody and Abby Wong had assists for PHS.
Sadie Raifstanger scored on a Mabel Cooney assist for Monument, which also got nine saves from Ynes Bourdon and seven from Anneliese Hocker.
Harolyn Castillo stopped six Spartans shots.
Greylock 5, Lenox 0
LENOX — After getting blanked by the Pittsfield defense mid-week, the Mounties found the back of the net often on a road trip to Lenox Friday night.
Of the five goals Greylock (5-0-1) punched through, senior Nora Lopez had a hand in four of them. She scored the game’s opener and closer, while also assisting each of the Drake sisters once.
Tanley Drake was a force as well, with two goals and an assist on Lopez’ first marker. Maddie Drake scored the fifth goal, while GG Nicastro and Emma Stuebner tallied assists.
For Lenox, Coco Gilardi made 15 saves.
McCann Tech 4, Ware 1
WARE — Shaylee Lawson put in two goals and assisted on a third as the Hornets took care of business on a long road trip Friday afternoon.
McCann got seven saves from Natalie Tatro and one from Bella Lefevre, and improve to 4-0-2 on the year.
“This 4-1 victory was an excellent win for our team,” wrote coach Lindsay Lincoln. “All our players showed strength, skill, and heart — they left it all on the field and came out victorious. We had minutes from everyone tonight and I could not be more proud of this team. We head to Taconic on Tuesday.”
Jordyn Lloyd contributed two assists in the win, while Zoey Kratz and Lainey Field had the other goals.
Taconic 3, Baystate 2
SPRINGFIELD — As far as responses go, the Thunder have put together a pretty strong one.
After losing in five sets to rival Pittsfield after leading 2-0 on Monday night, Taconic went to Williamstown and beat reigning Class C champion Greylock in five sets on Wednesday, and then took down Class B runner-up Baystate Academy Friday night, also on the road and also in five sets.
Taconic took the match 22-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-21, 15-11. It was the team’s four straight five-setter and fifth of the season.
“We would love to be able to win in three or four as that would help our ranking more than five-set wins do, but looking on the bright side, we are getting lots of practice winning the shorter fifth set in a higher pressure situation,” wrote coach Lance Fyfe. “Sophie Aubin was huge defensively tonight with 28 digs making Ella Stodden’s life a lot easier as far as setting goes. Ella had a season-high 40 assists dishing out sets to tonight’s top hitters, Angelese Ward-Green (season-high 16 kills), Gracie Cormier (9 kills), and Aurora Rose-Dimarco (7 kills).
Stodden added 18 digs, while Aubin had 28. Lexi Murphy-Malloy put in six aces for Taconic (4-4).
Mount Greylock 3, Ludlow 1
WILLIAMSTOWN — After back-to-back five-set losses to start the week, the Mounties got right by Friday night.
Greylock defeated Ludlow 20-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-11 at home.
“The team’s offense is improving every day and it is really exciting to see,” wrote Greylock coach Greg Geyer. “Keira Kristensen has her senior night next Friday and her leadership is second to none.”
Kristensen made her return from injury and had six kills, seven aces and three blocks to lead the way.
The Mounties (4-3) had 17 aces and 35 kills as a team. Olivia Perez went for eight kills and six aces, while Tyanna Lepicier had seven kills, four aces and 16 digs. Cecelia Keogh added six kills and 10 digs.
Longmeadow 3, Wahconah 0
LONGMEADOW — It was a tough two nights in the valley for Wahconah. The Warriors’ 5-1 start was roughed up by a pair of sweep defeats to East Longmeadow and then Longmeadow Friday night. The Lancers have yet to lose a set in six matches this season.
Longmeadow took Friday’s visit 25-16, 25-20, 25-6.
The Warriors (5-3) did get seven kills from Emma Jacinto and six from Taea Cunagin, while Malaina Haczela had 15 assists.
BOYS SOCCER
Taconic 3, Wahconah 2
PITTSFIELD — A natural hat trick by Fred Yankey made Wahconah’s hill too steep to climb in a Saturday matinee matchup with Taconic.
Yankey staked the Thunder a 2-0 lead at halftime, finishing assists by Josh Alvarez and Lucas Parise.
“Starting the second half Fred Yankey scored his third goal, this time unassisted but thanks to the hard work of the play behind him from Lucas Parise and Samuel Latorre,” wrote coach Jason Keller. “Wahconah made the game interesting scoring two goals towards the end of the second half, but Taconic played hard enough to the final whistle.”
Keller credited Steven Orellana on the defense for stemming multiple Warrior attacks. Taconic is 3-4. Wahconah was unbeaten before back-to-back games in Pittsfield. After losing to the Generals and Thunder, the Warriors are 3-2-2.
Greylock 1, Hampshire 0
WILLIAMSTOWN — The Mounties needed a win Friday after consecutive losses, and they got one with a victory over Hampshire at home.
Jin Namkoong’s second-half tally off a Kofi Roberts assist proved the difference. The goal came in the 72nd minute, after Ward Bianchi and the defense had kept the Raiders away. Bianchi made three saves in the shutout for Greylock (4-2)
Lee sweeps at Wyantenuck
GREAT BARRINGTON — Joey Abderhalden’s medalist round of 41 helped keep the Wildcats clean on a tri-match trip to Wyantenuck Country Club on Friday.
Behind Abderhalden, David Carlino and Nick McDonough shot matching 43s, with Rydel Drenga and Matty Abderhalden at 47. That put Lee at 174 to Monument’s 192 and Mount Everett’s 199.
Theo Curletti’s 43 and Liam Smith’s 45 paced Monument. Johnny Ireland shot 45 and Gus Gleason shot 48 for Everett.
Wahconah 147, Hoosac Valley 193
DALTON — The Warriors continue to dominate on their home course at Wahconah Country Club.
After posting a 144 earlier this season, Wahconah dropped a 147 against Hoosac on Friday. The win puts Wahconah at 7-1 and into the Western Mass. D-II tournament, which will be at Chicopee Country Club on Oct. 14.
Kesler Anello was medalist at 1-under par, while Sam McLaughlin shot even-par 35. Both players finished their afternoons with two birdies. Anello birdied the fourth and eighth holes, while McLaughlin had back-to-back strong holes on Nos. 6 and 7.
“We played strong up and down the lineup,” wrote Wahconah coach Pete Terpak. “Kesler Anello was outstanding and Sammie McLaughlin continues to make it look easy out there. Proud of everyone in the lineup tonight, they all played well.”
Logan Aitken fired a 37 and Caleb Colombari’s 41 rounded it out for the hosts. For Hoosac, Zach Mongeon had a 43 and Chase George a 46.
