Here’s a look at the Week 5 high school football slate around the Capital City.
Southeast (2-2) at No. 1 Millard South (3-1), Thursday, 7 p.m. — It doesn’t get any easier for Southeast after having lost its last two games. Top-ranked Millard South has scored 65, 72 and 70 points against Class A opposition.
No. 6 Omaha North (2-2) at Northeast (4-0), Thursday, 7 p.m., Seacrest — Finally tested in a one-score win over North Platte, the Rockets now face their toughest opponent yet. Objective No. 1 will be stopping one of the state’s best running backs, Jaron Cannon, who’s averaging 193.8 rushing yards per game.
Lincoln Christian (2-2) at Milford (3-1), Thursday, 7 p.m. — In a clash of stylistic differences — Milford averages just over 200 passing yards per game and Lincoln Christian averages 16.5 — the Eagles enter on a three-game winning streak. Lincoln Christian earned a shutout win in last season’s matchup.
Omaha Benson (2-2) at Lincoln High (3-1), Friday, 6 p.m., Beechner — Opportunity knocks for the Links against an Omaha Benson team that has been far more competitive than in a lost 2024 campaign. Lincoln High has won games with its defense and will look to do so again.
North Star (2-2) at Omaha Westview (2-2), Friday, 7 p.m. — After scoring 23 points across its first three games, North Star turned in 57 points against Omaha South last week. Omaha Westview is in a similar position as the Navigators, providing an opportunity for both teams to gauge their growth.
No. 5 Kearney (3-1) at No. 10 East (3-1), Friday, 7 p.m., Seacrest — Outside of a season-opening loss, Lincoln East has controlled games over its three-week winning streak. The same can be said for Kearney, which has been excellent apart from a blowout loss to Millard South.
Southwest (0-4) at South Sioux City (1-3), Friday, 7 p.m. — Playing the same schedule in 2024, a Southwest victory over South Sioux City sparked a stronger second-half finish. The Silver Hawks will hope to accomplish the same feat this season.
Pius X (2-2) at Class B No. 2 Norris (4-0), Friday, 7 p.m. — An excellent Norris rushing attack will go up against a stingy Thunderbolt defense in one of Class B’s best games this week. Norris has won the last two meetings between the annual opponents.
No. 7 Seward (2-2) at Northwest (1-3), Friday, 7 p.m., UBT Stadium — Tested by a difficult schedule, Northwest earned a victory over Hastings last weekend. Another ranked opponent is on the way as Seward enters having won its last two games.
Standing Bear (2-2) at No. 3 Waverly (3-0), Friday, 7 p.m. — With two strong wins on the board, Standing Bear faces a difficult challenge against Waverly. Can the Grizzlies slow down running back Nathan Axmann?
Raymond Central (3-1) at Lincoln Lutheran (3-1), Friday, 7 p.m., Aldrich — An excellent Warrior defense which gave up a season-high 22 points in last week’s loss now faces a Raymond Central team with similar strengths. Expect points to be at a premium in this matchup.
Parkview Christian (1-2) at Class D-6 No. 7 Pawnee City (2-1), Friday, 7 p.m. — Having scored 14 points in both its losses, Parkview Christian will look for more from its offense this week. Pawnee City is one of the state’s top six-man teams, having lost a one-score contest to Hampton last weekend.
