We love a good roast dinner, but it's not always easy finding the time to throw one together during the week. Even at weekends, if you want to enjoy a day out, or the kids have parties and activities to get to, there's little spare time to be had in the kitchen. That's why we were so keen to give Morrisons' new Carvery Meal Deal a try, which promises to feed four people for £15. Basically you get to choose a main, from either chicken, beef, pork or gammon and then you can pick three sides to accompany it. There's everything from a vegetable medley or cauliflower cheese, to roast potatoes, mash and everyone's favourite pigs in blankets. It comes as a roast in the bag main and is an XXL chicken weighing 2.4kg. The chicken alone would usually cost £12 at Morrisons, so you can see you're making a decent saving overall. We were spoilt for choice with sides, but ended up going for the simple options of a veg medley, mash and fresh chicken gravy. It wasn't everything we'd typically have with a full roast dinner, but it was more than enough and all of it tasty too. Even the mash, which is quite often a bit too lumpy in ready meals, was decent. It could have done with a bit more butter to improve the flavour, but once that delicious gravy was poured over it, it really didn't matter. The size of the chicken also meant we had some leftovers too, so you can't complain at that. Other mains in the deal include the Slow Cooked Beef Joint, Pork Leg Crackling Joint or British Drycure Gammon Joint. For those who prefer something a little lighter, a Side of Salmon with Lemon and Pepper Butters is also available. Sides include mash, cauliflower cheese, vegetable medley, creamed cabbage, carrot and swede mash, roast potatoes, chicken gravy, meat gravy, Yorkshire puddings, pigs in blankets and pork, sage and onion stuffing.
