A cafe known for its fresh coffee and ‘fabulous’ sandwiches has urged customers to support small businesses or risk losing another independent Greater Manchester business. Brew Thirty Two in Stretford opened six months ago but owners say they are now at a ‘crossroads’, and find themselves ‘struggling to survive’. The tiny cafe on Taylors Road issued a heartbreaking statement on social media yesterday (September 16) and has asked its customers to help spread the word and keep it trading. Serving everything from breakfast staples and sandwiches to freshly brewed coffee and cakes, the owners of the cafe took over the spot earlier this year. Many locals will know it under its former guise, Mia’s, which operated from the site for two decades. Issuing an update on its Facebook page, the owners of Brew Thirty Two wrote: “We never thought we’d have to write this, but we are at a real crossroads. Stay connected with our City Life newsletter here “Brew Thirty Two has now been open for 6 months, and while we’ve poured our hearts into making it a welcoming place with fresh food, good coffee, and a friendly atmosphere, the truth is… we are struggling to survive. “Our takings are down by almost £2,000 a month compared to when we first opened, and unless things turn around, we may be forced to close our doors. “Some of you will know this café as Mia’s, which was here for 20 years. We’ve heard the comparisons, and we completely respect the love people had for Mia’s, we share that love! “But things are very different for us. Mia didn’t pay rent as she owned the building, whereas we pay over £1,000 a month more just in rent and charges alone. That means our prices can’t be what they were when it was Mia’s, but we promise you they are fair.” In the post, the owners went on to explain that their sandwiches are freshly made with locally baked bread, and cost the same (or less!) than the Co-op across the road. They added that everything is made in-house, from the chilli in the jacket potatoes, to the wide variety of sandwich fillings they prepare fresh every day. Likewise, their salad items are delivered every morning from a local greengrocer, ensuring freshness and supporting other small businesses, and their coffee is cheaper than Costa, and they proudly use beans from local roaster Second City Coffee, rather than generic supermarket beans. Every visit, every share, every kind word helps us more than you can imagine. “Please help us spread the word – share this post and tag us with #SaveBrewThirtyTwo so together we can keep our little café alive. “Thank you for supporting us. We really don’t want Brew Thirty Two to become another empty shop front.” The local community took to the comments of the Facebook post to share their support for the small business with many praising the menu and service. One wrote: “Been a few times at lunch & top notch butties. Hope you get the support you need. Maybe flier some local businesses…do you offer delivery etc?” Another added: “Bought lunch for family which was lovely. I00% recommend”, and others promised the owners that they would be in next week for a sausage and egg butty. Brew Thirty Two is located at 1 Burleigh Rd, Stretford, Manchester M32 0PF and is open Monday through Saturday, 8am until 2pm.
