We’ve strengthened security agencies to end kidnapping — Oluyole LG boss

Chairman of Oluyole local government area in Oyo, Engineer Akeem Olatunji has declared that his administration has strengthened security agencies in a bid to put an end to cases of kidnapping, farmers/ herders clashes and other criminal activities in the area. Olatunji made this declaration when he spoke with journalists at the local government secretariat at the weekend. Recall that some cases of kidnapping and other criminal activities were recorded in the local government area a few years ago. Olatunji while addressing the journalists said that the era of kidnapping, farmers/ herdsmen clashes and other criminal activities that were recorded in the local government area in the past has gone. The former Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State while speaking, maintained that his administration has equiped and fortified the security agencies in the local government area. He said that this has helped to improve the security situation in the local government area. Olatunji noted that he been able to correct the notion that the local government area was insecure. He admitted that there used to be rampant cases of kidnapping and herders/ farmers clashes and apprehension before he came on board. He however said that the security situation of the local government area has been improved. Olatunji said, “The number one achievement is in the area of security because, we have been able to correct the notion that Oluyole was insecure. Before we came in, there used to be rampant cases of kidnapping and herders/ farmers clashes and apprehension because, people could not move freely. “But, as at today, we thank God because we were able to change the security apparatus of the local government in line with governor Seyi Makinde security architecture, because the state alone cannot do it. We have to complement each other’s efforts and that is exactly what we have been doing. “As I used to say, the only way we can get it right is to replicate the idea of good governance of Governor Seyi Makinde at the local government level. Thay is what we have done in the area of security. We have commissioned three security buildings for the vigilantees. We normally do regular combing of forests because we have a place like black spot. It is an expensive land. “Apart from the regular security meetings, we have excellent relationship with Baales, the traditional rulers and Obas in Oluyole local government area as well as communities and that has also assisted us in nipping whatever security challenges that likely to arise. “We have organised herders/ farmers summit in which we brought everybody together. It is when they understand each other that the differences can be resolved. “In the area of health, in the last one and half years, we have been able to organise free surgical operation for people. We have 500 glasses to people who need it. We have also embarked on renovation of some healthcare centres. We have also organised medical outreach. We are into partnership with National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) to make use of their medical experts to render services to the people of Oluyole local government area. “In the area of education, we have renovated some schools. We have constructed some blocks of classrooms. We have donated free exercise books to some selected schools in the local government area to encourage the pupils that there is future in education. We have organised a quiz competition, the winner became the one-day chairman of the local government area and she enjoyed all the paraphernalia of office. We have organised trainings for the youths. We have awarded scholarships to about 200 indigent students. “In the area of road construction, we have constructed many roads, we have opened some roads. We have been talking to the state to improve on our roads. In the area of welfare of our workers, we have provided a bus to NULGE, we also gave them loan. We have connected the transformer here. The local government is functioning perfectly. The outer side of our local government area is the best in Oyo State. “Before, I came there was no court. We constructed a building that is now serving as a grade a customary court. We also reconstructed a block of six offices. We also gave out cash to some communities to assist them. We have been assisting communities to execute some projects. We have also graded some community roads. “We also established a market. There is an ongoing Oluyole international market at New Garage. We are constructing a modern market at Olomoyoyo. I have excellent relationship with the legislative arm”.
