We're buying the recent slide in a hot stock tied to powering AI data centers

We are buying 10 shares of GE Vernova at roughly $549 each. Following Thursday's trade, Jim Cramer's Charitable Trust will own 100 shares of GEV, increasing its weighting to 1.45% from about 1.3%. We're nibbling on some shares of GE Vernova into Thursday's overall market pullback. Over the past week, we have seen some air come out of the artificial intelligence trade due to greater scrutiny on valuations and questions about where all this money earmarked for data center investments will come from. These worries have also pulled down shares of GE Vernova — a maker of large natural gas turbines used to generate electricity and electrification products found throughout the grid and in data centers. Shares have fallen an additional 5% since the company reported third-quarter earnings back in mid-October, which brought the total decline from their record-high close of $664 on Aug. 6 to about 17%. GEV YTD mountain GE Vernova YTD We have been intentionally slow to build up the position after the stock got away from us this summer, and we are using this downturn to buy more shares since we still have a positive long-term outlook on the need for increased electricity investment. GE Vernova's backlog, as of the end of Q3, increased 15% year over year to about $135 billion. The company has also said it continues to expect natural gas pricing to remain favorable, which is a key part thesis. Additionally, GE Vernova made what appears to be a smart deal to buy the remaining 50% stake it didn't already own in grid equipment supplier Prolec GE to bolster its electrification business.
