Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the Indian team for their historic win in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup. The PM, on Thursday, November 5, met the triumphant women's cricket team at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi. Sharing the full video of the interaction with the team, he wrote, "Every Indian feels immense pride in Team India’s World Cup victory. It was a delight interacting with the women’s cricket team. Do watch!" During the interaction, PM congratulated the team for the victory and praised their remarkable comeback in the tournament after a string of three defeats and the trolling they had faced on social media. PM Modi also told the players to take forward the 'Fit India' message forward. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur recalled meeting the PM in 2017 when they had met him without the trophy, and was happy to meet him with the trophy this time. Vice Captain Smriti Mandhana said PM had motivated them before and has been an inspiration for all of them. She also spoke about how girls are doing well in all fields today because of PM Modi. Deepti Sharma said she had been waiting to meet the PM. She recalled their meeting in 2017, when PM had asked them to keep working hard. PM discussed about Jai Shri Ram on Deepti's Instagram account and the tattoo of Bhagwan Hanuman on her arm. Deepti revealed it gives her strength. Meanwhile, Harmanpreet asked PM how he manages to always remain in the present, and PM responded, saying it has become a part of his life and his habit. PM also recalled the famous catch of Harleen in 2021 against England, about which he had posted on social media at that time. He also discussed how Harmanpreet pocketed the ball after the final match. PM also spoke about famous catch of Laura Wolvaardt by Amanjot Kaur, which she took after several fumbles. Amanjot responded, saying that it is one fumble that she likes to see. Kranti Gaud mentioned how her brother is a big fan of PM, to which he immediately gave an open invite to meet them. PM asked them to take forward the message of Fit India, especially for girls across the country. He discussed the growing problem of obesity and highlighted the importance of being fit. Having lost in the final in 2005 and 2017, the India women were determined to end the trophy drought, and left no stone unturned to script history. The run to the title wasn't smooth as three back-to-back defeats to South Africa, Australia, and England threatened the campaign, but the fighting spirit and never-give-up attitude saw the team script a memorable comeback. The decimated New Zealand in the virtual knockout, Australia in the semifinal, and South Africa in the final to win the maiden World Cup.
