BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier busted out his guitar and showed off his songwriting ability Tuesday. Bachmeier joined head coach Kalani Sitake on BYUtv Sports Nation’s “BYU Football with Kalani Sitake.” The freshman quarterback played an original song on the guitar. Bachmeier wrote the song, which he titled “Ortega Road,” about his upbringing. In the song, he referenced his siblings, singing about “four boys and a pretty girl just having fun, enjoying the world.” Sitake, who sat next to him, nodded along while Bachmeier sang and strummed his guitar. Bear Bachmeier’s musical talents Tuesday wasn’t the first time Bachmeier’s musical ability was caught on camera since coming to Provo. In September, the quarterback and his older brother and teammate Tiger Bachmeier visited a nearby retirement home. They were joined by their “Uncle Don and Cousin James,” according to their older brother, Hank Bachmeier. They sang John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” “My (siblings) are very talented in music, too,” Hank Bachmeier previously told the Deseret News. “Tiger plays three or four instruments. Bear can play the guitar and can actually sing pretty well.” The Bachmeiers returned to the nursing home after BYU’s 24-21 victory over Utah last month. While there, they sang Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline.” Bear Bachmeier has spoken to the media about his passion for music. In his first BYU press conference, the quarterback said his favorite song to play on the guitar is Darius Rucker’s “Wagon Wheel,” as the Deseret News reported. Following BYU’s 41-27 win over Iowa State, Bear Bachmeier revealed that he likes to sing to himself on the sideline to control his nerves and “stay composed,” even when down by 14. “I like listening to the songs that are playing and I saw Luke Combs — he’s coming here to play. So, I was singing like ‘Hurricane’ and ‘Fast Car,’” he said. Up next, Bear Bachmeier and the No. 8 BYU Cougars head to Texas to face No. 9 Texas Tech on Saturday.
