Golden State Warriors superstar Jimmy Butler has joined San Diego Wave FC as a minority investor, the team announced in a press release Monday. “San Diego Wave FC announced today that Jimmy Butler, six-time NBA All-Star, Olympic gold medalist, and entrepreneur, has joined the Club’s investor group,” the release began. They were founded in June 2021, making the playoffs in 2022 and 2023 while winning the Challenge Cup in 2024 (but missing the playoffs). The Wave just clinched a spot in the 2025 NWSL Playoffs. He was traded to Golden State midway through the 2024-25 season from the Miami Heat. Before Miami, he also spent time with the Philadelphia 76ers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Chicago Bulls. Butler is a six-time All-Star and five-time All-NBA Teamer.
