The Golden State Warriors are inching toward clarity on their roster. But one name continues to hang over every move: Jonathan Kuminga. Until his contract is resolved, Golden State’s flexibility remains tied up. That includes the chance to add Seth Curry, the younger brother of Stephen Curry.
Warriors’ Options Still Limited by Kuminga
ESPN has reported that Kuminga did not travel to San Francisco. He will not attend media day. There has been little momentum toward a deal.
Golden State has three offers on the table:
Two years, $45 million with a team option.
Three years, $75.2 million with a team option.
Three years, $54 million with no option.
Kuminga and his camp have pushed back. They want a player option as a sign of goodwill after “years of confusion” around his role under Steve Kerr. He also has until October 1 to accept an $8 million qualifying offer. That path would give him unrestricted free agency in 2026.
Seth Curry Still on the Radar
As Marc Stein reported, Golden State still hopes to sign Seth Curry. League insiders have long expected the brothers to play together. But the team’s to-the-dollar flexibility won’t be clear until Kuminga’s deal is finalized.
Curry is entering his 13th NBA season. Last year with the Charlotte Hornets, he averaged 6.5 points and hit 45.6% of his threes. His shooting could be a valuable addition, but the Warriors’ ability to add a 15th player depends on staying under the second apron.
Veterans Already in the Fold
The Kuminga holdout has dominated headlines, but Golden State has not stood still. Al Horford has committed to a multi-year deal and will start at center, bringing leadership and championship experience. Gary Payton II and De’Anthony Melton are also returning, giving the rotation defense and depth.
Second-round rookie Will Richard signed a four-year contract with two guaranteed years, showing the team’s willingness to invest in its future.
What’s Next for the Warriors
The Kuminga standoff has stretched all summer. Now the deadline looms. He must either take one of Golden State’s offers or play on the qualifying deal. Once that choice is made, the Warriors will finally know what resources remain. And with Seth Curry waiting, the Bay could soon see one of the NBA’s most intriguing family reunions.
