Munroe blasts poor governance in sports bodies President of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), Godfrey Munroe, has once again underscored the critical importance of proper governance in national sports associations, warning that poor administrative practices ultimately hurt the very athletes they are supposed to serve. Munroe’s remarks come amid ongoing governance issues affecting the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA), which remains without official recognition from the GOA. He explained that repeated concerns from GASA’s own membership, ranging from a lack of transparency and accountability to questions over athlete selection, had forced the Olympic body to maintain its stance. “You can’t have national associations or federations that are engaging in discriminatory policies, selection processes, and lack accountability to their membership in terms of finance or any other systems,” Munroe said, emphasizing that athlete development cannot thrive in an autocratic environment.
