Benidorm is set to expand its urban allotments, offering residents the chance to grow their own fruit and vegetables. The second phase of allotments at Camí de la Parva, in the heart of Benidorm’s traditional farmland, will open in the coming weeks.
From Monday September 15, the Environment Department began accepting applications for 48 new plots, which will be allocated by lottery. Councillor Mónica Gómez explained that applicants must have been registered residents of Benidorm for at least one year and be physically capable of working the land.
The application period runs until Tuesday September 24. Forms can be submitted at the Town Hall’s General Register, local administrative extensions or via the council’s online platform (https://sede.benidorm.org
Applicants must provide a copy of their ID card or equivalent document. Once the deadline has passed, the date of the draw will be announced.
48 new allotments open for applications
These 48 new allotments join the 49 plots from the first phase, launched in mid-2022. Initially, 38 were planned, designed and prepared by trainees from the ‘T’Avalem Benidorm Jove II’ programme. However, by optimising the available land, the number was increased to 48, each measuring 7.5 by 2.5 metres.
Successful applicants will attend a training session on organic farming and the use of these spaces. This activity is co-financed by Alicante Provincial Council, which has granted €1,500 to support the project.
Gómez added that once the new plots at La Parva are operational, the council will review all existing allotments to free up unused or mismanaged plots for other interested residents.
With this second phase, Benidorm now offers 171 allotments across three areas of the city. Beyond environmental benefits, Gómez stressed that the initiative fosters community ties and strengthens social sustainability.
