Walton Goggins Reacts to Pete Davidson Predicting Career Backlash

Walton Goggins is saying “fuck it” when it comes to social media potentially turning on him. “SNL” alum Pete Davidson recently made headlines for calling out the ways in which social media users often become obsessed with actors only to end up complaining about them a few months later. Davidson said it happened to Pedro Pascal, who went from the internet’s daddy to the subject of backlash for simply acting in a lot of popular stuff (from Marvel to “Star Wars” to “The Last of Us” to indie box office hit “Materialists” and more), and Davidson predicted it would happen to Goggins next.
“Pete, we don’t know each other but I appreciate the heads up,” Goggins responded on Instagram. “We agree on one thing… Pedro Pascal isn’t a good man, He’s a great man. A dear friend of mine. As a 53 year old, I’m acutely aware that every experience has a shelf life. I appreciate so many of you going on this journey with me. I imagine a lot of you (and I don’t blame you) are tired of hearing my homilies. Trust me I’m tired of saying them. I have a few things coming out that I have an obligation to talk about… not for me mind you, but to honor all of those that worked so hard to bring these stories to fruition. So if you see something with my name on it I encourage you not to click on it… unless you want to… and if you do…I appreciate the support.”
While Goggins has been a beloved character actor for decades, he’s reached new levels of fame in recent months with acclaimed turns on blockbuster television series like “Fallout” and “The White Lotus.” The Emmy nominee said that he can’t be too mad about social media potentially turning on him when he’s fortunate to be in a position in his career where that would even be a chance.
“How lucky am I that this is even a possibility?!!” Goggins wrote. “I’ve had the good fortune of engaging in so many interesting conversations with so many of you….of collaborating with so many top-shelf people across so many disciplines over the last couple of years. Way more than a poor kid from Georgia would ever have the audacity to imagine. I wouldn’t take one back. So… If saying yes in life more than saying no is a crime, then I’m guilty as charged. And If this headline is a possibility or an inevitability… if this is my fate… Well… Fuck it. I’m going to enjoy the FUCK OUT OF IT.”
Davidson kickstarted discussion on this topic while appearing on Theo Von’s “This Past Weekend” podcast. He commented on how social media “can’t wait” to turn against entertainment figures they’ve previously loved.
“Fucking two years ago he’s a hardworking, great actor,” Davidson said of Pascal’s reputation. “Everyone was like, ‘He’s worked so hard and has been a struggling actor.’ Fucking blows up so fucking hard. Everyone’s like, ‘Daddy, daddy! Yeah, daddy, daddy.’ Then a year later, he’s in everything now because he’s hot and big and everyone’s like, ‘Go the fuck away, dude.’”
Davidson said later that social media is “going to do it with Walton Goggins next. … It’s, like, within months.”
