West Midlands Police were called out at 7.15pm on Saturday, October, 25, to reports of a woman, in her 20s, who had suffered an ‘appalling attack’. The Sikh Federation said the victim has been confirmed as a young Punjabi woman, and the suspect was heard using racist language. A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape. The latest incident comes just weeks after a British-born Sikh woman was raped by two men in Oldbury. Paddock members Councillor Nick Gandham, Councillor Waheed Rasab and Councillor Gurmeet Sohal, have spoken out against the latest attack which occurred in their ward. Councillor Rasab said the incidents reflect a ‘dangerous rhetoric’ served by ‘certain right wing political leaders’. He said: “It reflects the dangerous consequences of divisive and inflammatory rhetoric propagated by certain political leaders who promote right-wing hate politics. “Such language fuels prejudice and emboldens those who seek to harm others based on race or ethnicity. “We must hold accountable not only the perpetrator of this heinous crime but also those who contribute to a climate of hate through their words and actions. “The reported rape of a young female is a heartbreaking and horrifying act that must be unequivocally condemned. My thoughts and full support are with the victim and her family during this incredibly difficult time.” Councillor Gandham added: “We have a very close-knit community in Park Hall and have a strong sense of community spirit. “We would like to thank everyone who has rallied with support in trying to find the assailant. “We are currently living in uncertain times and we would encourage anyone of any background to be vigilant and take extra precautions when travelling alone. Thanks to the police for their swift response.”
