Kids can unleash their inner explorer and dive into a world of discovery in the heart of Perth this WA Day inside the Hancock Iron Ore Innovation and Education Alley. Families can immerse themselves in interactive experiences from a stellar line-up of WA’s leading innovators, including WA Museum, Scitech, Synergy, The Perth Mint, Alcoa, Water Corporation, RAC, and Hancock Iron Ore. The fun-packed alley promises everything from science experiments and sustainability lessons to gold rush adventures and helicopter rescues. The Perth Mint invites festival-goers to embody gold rush pioneers for the day and pan for golden nuggets. The Mint’s chief people and reputation officer, Edwina Dwyer, said “there’s nothing quite like the thrill of the hunt for gold”. “We love seeing the excitement on kids’ faces when they uncover their treasures,” she said. “Our panning activity lets kids get their hands dirty and experience a taste of WA’s pioneering spirit in a fun and adventurous way. “Western Australia’s goldrush heritage is such a huge part of the Mint’s story, and we’re proud to share that sense of discovery and history with the community through the WA Day Festival.” The WA Museum will come to life at Burswood park and visitors will have the opportunity to explore the vibrant cultures of the Cocos Malay and Christmas Island communities through interactive displays. Scitech is offering hands-on experiments, pop-up demonstrations, and the chance to hear from professional scientists about the exciting profession. Meanwhile, Synergy is inviting visitors to recharge, and relax. Alcoa will showcase a robot dog, offer people the chance to dress up as a miner and demonstrate aluminium’s role in a sustainable future. Water Corporation promises interactive games, giveaways, and tips on saving WA’s precious water resources. Thrill-seekers can experience an RAC Rescue by stepping inside a repurposed rescue helicopter and taking part in a virtual mission that highlights the work of real-life heroes. Hancock Iron Ore invites families to partake in photo opportunities with their iconic mascot, Rocky, and even use a mini digger to “mine” for plush treasures. The weekend of free WA fun includes local music performances, free carnival rides, more than 60 food trucks, thrilling BMX performances, skydivers and dazzling fireworks displays will light up the sky over the swan river each night. The WA Day Festival is made possible thanks to support from the BHP, WA Government, Lotterywest. Patrons are encouraged to take advantage of the public transport available to Burswood Park.
