VUILD, a Construction Startup, Raises ¥230 Million—Investments from Mr. Tsuji of Money Forward and Others

On September 10, construction tech startup VUILD announced that it has raised a total of ¥230 million through a third-party allotment. The latest round included participation from Kaikai Kiki, Leave a Nest Capital, Wa Construction, Mr. Kohei Takashima, and Mr. Yosuke Tsuji, bringing the total funds raised, including debt, to ¥1.25 billion. The company promotes “data submission, print-out architecture,” which combines the cloud-based design platform “EMARF” and digital fabrication equipment to produce and construct everything from furniture to small-scale buildings via data submission. Previously focused on furniture and housing for individuals, the company plans to use this funding to shift significantly into the BtoB sector, handling interior and construction work.

VUILD’s proprietary algorithm automatically generates processing data for joints and other components, streamlining CNC router processing and on-site assembly. Materials can be output at local workshops, reducing challenges related to labor shortages and delivery costs.

The new funds will be invested in building a sales structure, enhancing digital machinery, and expanding production bases, with plans to extend construction capabilities nationwide. The company aims to increase contracts for small to medium-sized wooden construction projects, such as wooden stadium plans, while also venturing overseas. In October, VUILD plans to unveil a collaborative project with world-renowned artist Takashi Murakami at Ginza Sony Park.

As of July 2022, the company had raised a cumulative total of approximately 640 million yen, and with this fundraising round, the cumulative total including debt reached approximately 1.25 billion yen.
