In a viral Reddit post, a cat owner gets their black feline a lookalike kitten, and the way their bond develops has social media users in tears. The heartwarming post, shared in October under the username u/catlikejeans, shows pictures of the two inseparable kitties doing everything together, from playing to napping, to just hanging out on their cat tree. “Got a kitten for my cat”, the caption says, “Instantly bonded. Meet Bagheera and Pantera”, as the pictures show the older cat holding the small kitten close with his paws, just like a parent would. In the comments, the poster said that they were planning a slow transition but because both kitties seemed so curious about the other, they let the kitten explore the house with the other cat around after the first night. A stock image shows a black cat and a kitten napping together on a fuzzy blue blanket. Despite not knowing each other much, the play fought a bit, but gentle enough that the poster wasn’t worried. “The kitten doesn’t love our giant dog and he will swat at her to this day lol, but he loves the cat”, they wrote. While some cats do very well on their own, others, especially those who grew up with other cats around, may enjoy having a feline companion. But how do you know whether your cat wants a friend or not? According to Sharon Lakes Animal Hospital, if your kitty needs a companion in their life, they will show clear signs. If your cat meows a lot, follows you around, and is just generally clingy, they may need more social interaction, which could be provided by a second cat. Excessive grooming as a way of self-soothing could also indicate that your cat would benefit from having a companion. Other signs that your feline may be feeling lonely include a shift in sleeping habits, litter box issues and odd eating habits. If your cat is showing these symptoms, make sure to take them to the veterinarian to rule out any health issues before deciding to bring another cat home. If you do decide to get a new cat, introduce them slowly and mindfully, by scent first. You can read more about introducing cats here.
