Vizsla Wants To Avoid Rain, Then Has Realization About Front and Back Yard

Like humans, dogs have their preferences when it comes to the weather. Some dogs don’t mind the rain, while others absolutely detest it. The latter rings true for Tycho, the Vizsla (@tycho.the.vizsla) who has recently gone viral on TikTok, earning over 294,000 views. The footage shows Tycho sitting by the back door while his owner, behind the camera, opens it to reveal it’s pouring down rain. Tycho immediately runs back inside and heads to the front door, expecting the weather to be different there. The caption sarcastically reads: “Surely one of [the doors] opens to sunny skies.” @tycho.the.vizsla Surely one of them opens to sunny skies? #vizsla #dogtok #doghumor #dogmom #puppy ♬ som original – clippmusic So far, the October 27 post has received more than 54,500 likes and more than 160 comments. One user joked: “What’s the point in having magical portals to other worlds if it’s raining in every one of them?” It turns out Tycho isn’t alone—other owners have shared similar experiences. “Our cat had to try all of our FOUR doors before giving up and staying inside,” said another user. A third commenter shared: “I once tried to prove to my dog that it is raining on both sides and it backfired. Within 30 [seconds] that it took me to walk to the front door—it had stopped raining.” Tips to Help Your Dog Potty in the Rain A stock image of a vizsla dog looking out of a window. According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), many dogs dislike going outside to potty in bad weather, which can cause accidents or setbacks in training. While some dogs don’t mind rain or snow, others may hold their bladder or go indoors instead. With patience and positive training, dogs can learn to feel more comfortable relieving themselves in any weather. Make Positive Associations Pair rainy outings with treats, praise, and play to create positive feelings. Supervise closely and reward immediately when your dog potties outside. Use Rain Gear A waterproof jacket or boots can make dogs more comfortable in wet weather. Proper gear helps reduce sensory discomfort and encourages normal potty behavior. Create Shelter Look for covered areas like porches or trees for potty breaks. Use a temporary sheltered potty spot at home until your dog gains confidence. Teach Potty on Cue Train your dog to go on command during good weather. Use the cue and reward generously when they go quickly in the rain. In some cases, rain gear can actually serve as motivation to get your furry friend out the door. As one commenter noted: “My dog hates the rain too, but if I leave the back door open and grab his raincoat, he runs out and forgets about the rain—because he hates the coat even more.” Newsweek reached out to @tycho.the.vizsla for comment via TikTok. We could not verify the details of the case.
