Vizag girl selected for Indian team in visually challenged T20 World Cup

Pangi Karuna Kumari, a class 10 student of the Government Residential School for the Visually Challenged in the Girls category, a Vizag girl, will represent India in the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup for the Visually Challenged, to be held from November 11 to 25, 2025, in New Delhi and Bengaluru.

Kumari performed well in the selection trials, which were held in August 2025 in Bengaluru. She scored 114 runs from 70 balls (100 runs in 60 balls).

Karuna, a Vizag girl, has secured a place in the B1 category (for players with total visual impairment) in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup for the Visually Challenged. The tournament organisers have categorised players into B1 (completely blind), B2 (partially blind with limited visual impairment) and B3 (severe residual visual impairment).

India will be the host and will be competing against Pakistan, Australia, Sri Lanka, England, and the United States. The Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI), the cricket division of the Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, will organise the tournament. The tournament will feature 21 league matches, two semi-finals, and a final.

Karuna’s school principal, D Vijaya, congratulated her, describing her as an active girl with great enthusiasm for sports. She expressed that the school is well prepared to support Karuna.

Kaurna has participated in the women’s blind cricket national selections held in Hyderabad in December 2023, Hooghly in January 2024, Cochin in January 2025, and Kochi in March 2025. Her story of determination and talent inspires other visually impaired individuals to dream big, pursue their passions, and achieve success.
