Vitumbiko Mumba Calls On MCP Supporters To Stay Calm Amid Fake Figures Online

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) running mate, Vitumbiko Mumba, has urged his supporters and fellow party members to remain calm as unofficial election results circulate online.

In a Facebook post, Mumba warned: “Do not be distracted by the noise. It is part of their strategy to convince you that things will go their way so that when MEC starts announcing results, you should reject them and believe the propaganda by the other camp.”

He added that what people are seeing online are not official results, emphasizing that the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is still counting votes, and less than 10% of ballots have been processed so far. Mumba called out individuals spreading false figures for personal interests, noting that “the truth is still being written, nicely so.”

He urged supporters to “remain calm, vigilant, and united. Protect your vote, trust the process, and wait for MEC the only body mandated to declare results. Every ballot is still being transmitted, and every voice will count.”

Ending on an optimistic note, Mumba said: “I have never been more hopeful than I am now. We got this. Stand strong, and if you have time, listen to Sizzla Kalonje’s Solid as a Rock.”
