There’s a nip in the air and a buzz of celebration everywhere as the wedding season unfolds across India. From back-to-back functions to endless travel and late-night revelry, this time of year can be as demanding on your skin as it is delightful for your spirit. Brides-to-be and guests alike want to look their radiant best, making skincare, nutrition, and rest more essential than ever. “Amid the chaos of makeup, mehndi, and masti, your skin deserves a little extra love and a safety net of antioxidants,” says Dr Asok, aesthetic physician and founder of SkynD’or Clinic. Antioxidants: Skin’s Wedding Defense The secret to glowing through the festivities lies in balance, enjoying the good times while making mindful choices. According to Dr Asok, foods rich in antioxidants act as “nature’s invisible shield against oxidative stress.” “Antioxidants are the skin’s frontline warriors,” she explains. “They neutralise unstable molecules caused by pollution, UV rays, and poor dietary habits, factors that break down collagen and elastin, leading to sagging, dullness, and uneven tone.” Among these, Vitamin E stands out for its dual action: fighting free radicals while deeply nourishing and hydrating the skin from within. Vitamin E — The Secret Weapon “Vitamin E isn’t just one compound, it’s actually a family,” notes Dr Asok. “It consists of tocopherols and tocotrienols. Tocopherols are the familiar forms we see in beauty creams, while tocotrienols are the lesser-known but far more powerful siblings.” Studies show that tocotrienols can be up to sixty times stronger than tocopherols in combating free radicals. “They soothe inflammation, shield against UV damage, and slow premature ageing,” she adds. “That makes them a true skin saviour especially during the high-stress wedding season when your skin needs extra defense.” Palm Oil: An Overlooked Skin Ally “One of the richest natural sources of tocotrienols is palm oil,” says Dr. Asok. Beyond its culinary use, this tropical oil has earned a place in skincare thanks to its fatty acid composition and antioxidant properties. “With oleic and linoleic acids, palm oil locks in moisture and relieves dryness,” she explains. “Its carotenoids calm irritation and may even offer a mild level of UV protection. That’s why you’ll find it increasingly used in moisturisers, serums, and even wellness recipes that merge taste with skincare benefits.” Tips for Glowing Wedding Skin According to Dr Asok, hydration and nutrition are the foundation of glowing skin. “Drink plenty of water, coconut water, and herbal teas, they help flush out toxins and maintain elasticity,” she advises. She also emphasizes the role of healthy fats. “Good fats are your skin’s best friends. Include foods like avocados, walnuts, and oils with balanced fatty acid profiles, such as palm oil,” she says. “They help repair the skin barrier, keeping it soft and resilient.” Traditional ingredients still have a place, too. “A mix of turmeric and black pepper is a classic Indian anti-inflammatory that supports radiant skin,” says Dr Asok. “And don’t underestimate your gut, fermented foods like yogurt nurture gut health, which directly impacts your complexion.” She recommends pairing sweets with antioxidant-rich fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds to help counter oxidative stress. “Balance is everything,” she reminds. “Celebrate, but let your body and skin recover through hydration, rest, and mindful eating.” “The wedding season is about joy, not guilt,” says Dr Asok. “When you pair indulgence with mindful skincare and nutrition especially by embracing the Vitamin E advantage, your skin stays protected and luminous.” Ultimately, glowing skin isn’t about restriction, it’s about nourishment. Celebrate fully, care wisely, and let your skin shine as brightly as the season itself.
