Virginia Health Services bought out by a New Jersey company

Newport News-based Virginia Health Services, a senior health care staple in southeastern Virginia for the past 62 years, was acquired in September. Virginia Health Services said the new ownership is through VHS Consulting Services, a limited liability company registered in Virginia with the same address as New Jersey-based real estate investment firm Tryko Partners, which owns and operates senior housing and skilled nursing facilities. The VHS website now says it is supported by Marquis Health Consulting Services, which provides management for Tryko’s facilities. Marquis, founded in 2011, was affiliated with 68 facilities along the Eastern U.S. in August, according to the Patriot-News in Pennsylvania. Its headquarters is in the same building as Tryko Partners. Virginia Health Services said in an emailed statement all of its facilities will continue operating under the VHS name and there is no change in facility leadership. VHS, which has more than 1,000 employees, said there were no layoffs at its health care facilities but did not answer if there were layoffs outside of those. VHS’ portfolio includes seven skilled nursing facilities in Hampton, Newport News, York County, Gloucester County and Kilmarnock that were rebranded plus three communities: The Arbors senior living in Port Warwick, The Huntington assisted living on Warwick Boulevard and The Hamilton assisted living in York County. The company also provides home health care, palliative and hospice care, and outpatient rehabilitation. David Crosson, VHS senior vice president, emphasized the company’s strong reputation as an industry leader in Virginia and said in the statement VHS looks forward to the additional support from Marquis. “Now we aim to elevate these facilities even further as they offer compassionate, personalized care and an exceptional lifestyle in the most effective and sustainable way,” Crosson said.
