Awarding game balls from Virginia’s blowout win over Stanford in its ACC opener on Saturday night in Charlottesville.
Offense
Trell Harris, WR, Virginia: Each of Harris’ first three catches went for touchdowns and the three scoring receptions were all different. The first came on a screen pass in the red zone for a 3-yard TD. The second came after Harris beat Stanford’s defense deep for a 75-yard touchdown, and the third came after quarterback Chandler Morris escaped pressure, rolled right and looked for Harris in the end zone. Harris was beyond the Cardinal’s secondary and open for a 27-yard TD. That gave UVa a 21-7 advantage. He finished with four catches for 145 yards and three touchdowns in the win, become the first Cavaliers wide receiver since 2018 to catch three TDs in a game.
Chandler Morris, QB, Virginia: Morris accounted for five touchdowns (four passing, one rushing) in the victory. It was the fourth time in his career that he threw for at least four touchdowns, and his rushing touchdown in the second quarter grew the Cavaliers’ lead to 28-7. He finished with 380 passing yards while completing 74% of his throws on Saturday night.
Defense
Daniel Rickert, DE, Virginia: It seems like each week, Rickert is becoming increasingly comfortable in the Cavaliers’ defense and more accustomed to playing against Power Four competition. He was extremely active as a disruptor behind the line of scrimmage against the Cardinal. Rickert had five tackles, two tackles for loss and two sacks.
