Awarding game balls from Virginia’s 46-38 double overtime win over Florida State on Friday night in Charlottesville.
Offense
Chandler Morris, QB, Virginia: The Cavaliers’ quarterback wasn’t perfect against the Seminoles. He threw three interceptions. But Morris also combined for five touchdowns (three rushing, two passing) in the victory. The North Texas transfer was dynamic on the ground for the Hoos, operating effectively as a runner and tallying touchdown runs of 11, 7 and 4 yards to lift UVa over Florida State. His 4-yard scoring run in the second overtime served as the game-winning touchdown and his 2-point conversion pass to wide receiver Trell Harris extended the Cavaliers’ lead to the final tally they would win by.
Randy Pittman Jr., TE, Florida State: It’s not often that a tight end has a receiving touchdown, rushing touchdown and passing touchdown, but that’s exactly what Pittman did for the Seminoles in this bout, and his 11-yard touchdown catch with 36 seconds left allowed Florida State to tie the game and force overtime.
Defense
Ja’Son Prevard, DB, Virginia: Prevard entered the night with two career interceptions, and both of those came while with FCS Morgan State. He had two memorable picks on Friday night to help the Hoos take down the Seminoles. The third interception of Prevard’s career took a clever and focused effort. With Florida State in the red zone during the opening quarter, Prevard was sent on a blitz toward FSU signal-caller Tommy Castellanos. Prevard tipped Castellanos’ pass into the air, and then outleaped Castellanos to secure the catch. The interception sent Scott Stadium into a frenzy and at the time, preserved the Cavaliers’ 7-0 advantage. His next one was an interception UVa fans will never forget. He caught the final desperation pass Castellanos launched toward the end zone to seal the Hoos’ upset.
Special Teams
Will Bettridge, K, Virginia: The pressure was on Will Bettridge in the first overtime to deliver after Florida State kicker Jake Weinberg booted through a go-ahead field goal in the first part of the first overtime. Bettridge wasn’t rattled, though, and drilled a 39-yard kick to even the score at 38 and push the game to a second overtime.
