A video of a sports utility vehicle parked on a grass verge along Jalan Jurong Kechil has gone viral, drawing derisive comments online. TikTok user @mxgchx0ng posted the eight-second clip on Oct 25, which shows a stationary Lexus SUV mounted on the grass verge just before an Esso petrol station. A traffic police motorcycle is parked beside it, while an officer appears to be investigating. A man and a woman, possibly occupants of the SUV, appear to be assessing the damage while a male voice - possibly of the man recording the video - says "Hey, hey, you can't park there. You can't park there." This is followed by laughter before the video ends. At press time, the clip had garnered 390,000 views, 11,200 reactions and 243 comments, most of which mocked the SUV driver. "Sorry sir you can't park there," said one TikToker, in a comment echoed by multiple users. "Free parking," was another popular theme, while one suggested the driver had a "kopi licence," a colloquial expression meaning it was obtained through bribery. Some chose to pick on drivers of the luxury marque. "Typical Lexus driver, want to drive expensive car but cannot afford to pay for parking," said one commenter. Some comments were kinder. "There is no need to make fun of them," said one. "This is an accident, everyone makes mistakes. Don't laugh at people," said another. In response to The New Paper's queries, a spokesperson said that police were alerted on the evening of Oct 24 to an accident involving a car which was believed to have self-skidded along Jalan Jurong Kechil towards Bukit Batok East Avenue 6. No injuries were reported. A 63-year-old female driver is assisting in investigations, which are ongoing. Editor's note: This story has been updated with a police statement.
