Meanwhile, Americans are caught in the crossfire, as President Donald Trump promised on Truth Social that the nearly 40 million residents who rely on SNAP will not receive food assistance until the government re-opens. It's important to note that, as HuffPost reported, "The US Department of Agriculture has a special fund to help supplement the program in an emergency, [but] the agency said... it won’t use it during the shutdown." Considering the program helps feed Americans across the political spectrum, it's no surprise that MAGA and conservative voters are also feeling the weight of losing their benefits ahead of Thanksgiving. "Well," they wrote. "Since SNAP benefits are going to be paused, that effects my mom's ability to get Thanksgiving items for Thanksgiving dinner... does anyone know where we could get a turkey..? (Thanks alot you scumbag democrats..)" The post spawned tens of thousands on reactions on Reddit. "Trump canceled 94 million pounds of food aid to food banks recently," one person added. "94 million pounds in food aid to food banks. Yup. That's the guy they voted for!" Others didn't even bother arguing. Most comments were summed up thusly: "Vote better next time."
