Vice President Hails E.P. Church Choirs Union, Calls for Music-Driven Renewal and Environmental Stewardship

At the 2025 Biennial Conference of the National Evangelical Presbyterian Church Choirs Union, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Her Excellency Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, delivered a goodwill message that celebrated the enduring role of the Church in Ghana’s development and challenged choristers to be agents of both spiritual and social transformation.
Speaking through her Policy Advisor on Political Affairs, Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the Vice President extended heartfelt congratulations to the leadership and members of the Union for sustaining a tradition of faith, music, and mission over the years.
She praised the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, for its historic contributions to education, healthcare, and social development, citing landmark institutions such as the Bimbila College of Education, Tatale Agriculture Senior High School, Saboba E.P. Senior High School, and the Health Centre at Wapuli as legacies of the Church’s impact.
Her Excellency also commended the Church for shaping Ghana’s musical heritage through figures like Dr. Ephraim Amu, Ken Kafui, and Professor George Dor, whose artistry placed Ghana on the global stage. She stressed that choirs are not only integral to worship but also powerful tools for nation-building, urging them to embrace community projects such as environmental care, youth mentorship, and cultural preservation.
Reflecting on the conference theme, “Care for Creation: The Task and Mission to Improve the Newness of the Church Choir,” the Vice President underscored the urgent need for environmental stewardship amid challenges of climate change, deforestation, and pollution.
She called on the Church to lead advocacy through songs of awareness and practical initiatives like tree planting and clean-up campaigns, reminding congregants that caring for creation is both a national duty and an act of worship.
She further emphasized the importance of renewing church choirs to remain relevant in a changing society. Renewal, she said, means blending timeless hymns with contemporary worship, training the youth, and using music as a tool for evangelism, healing, and social transformation.
The Vice President envisioned choirs as “schools of discipline, creativity, and excellence,” nurturing talent while carrying forward the mission of Christ through harmony.
Concluding her message, Her Excellency assured the Union that their voices are instruments of renewal for both the Church and the nation:
“As you sing, may you remind us that creation is God’s gift entrusted to our care. As you renew your choirs, may you also renew the spirit of our society, lifting us higher in unity, faith, and hope.”
On behalf of the people of Ghana, she congratulated the National Evangelical Presbyterian Church Choirs Union on its milestone and prayed that their mission to care for creation and renew their ministry would bear lasting fruit.
