Veteran Service Officers Return to Staten Island to Help Local Heroes

STATEN ISLAND, NY - Veteran Service Officers will be returning to Councilmember Frank Morano’s office to assist Staten Island veterans and their families with filing claims and securing benefits free of charge. “Too many veterans struggle to cut through the red tape when it comes to accessing the benefits they’ve earned,” said Morano, a Republican who represents the South Shore of Staten Island. “This program will ensure Staten Island veterans and their families have trained advocates by their side every step of the way. It’s one small but important way we can honor their service with action.” The officers are accredited by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and can help veterans access a wide range of benefits, including health, dependent, education, home loan, and state/local benefits. This initiative comes through a partnership between The Department of New York VFW and Morano’s office. “As highly trained veteran service officers, we help assist and advocate for our warriors, from filing claims and pensions to assisting with necessary resources,” said State Commander James MacArthur of the Department of New York VFW. “For more than a century, the VFW’s mission is rooted in assisting those that served, and this initiative brings to light the importance of our organization.” The officers will be available at Councilmember Morano’s office, located at 2955 Veterans Rd. W. on Wednesday, Nov. 12 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments with the officers will also be available on the second Wednesday of each month, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Veterans and family members can schedule an appointment by calling 718-984-5151 or emailing morano@council.nyc.gov. “This is about making sure that no Staten Island veteran is left behind,” said Morano. “We are committed to making Staten Island a place where veterans and their families feel valued, supported, and proud of their service.”
