Verge Ausberry has been tabbed as the new LSU athletic director, The Advocate confirmed Tuesday through sources familiar with the decision. Ausberry takes over following LSU's decision to part ways with former athletic director Scott Woodward. New LSU system president Wade Rousse made the decision to let Ausberry lead an LSU athletics department that’s currently tasked with finding a new football coach to replace Brian Kelly. Here are five things to know about Ausberry, who is a native of New Iberia, Louisiana. Familiar with LSU Ausberry is in his 24th year with the LSU athletics department. He most recently served as deputy athletic director before his recent promotion and has held multiple positions in the athletics department during his time at LSU. He also played football for four years at LSU while earning his undergraduate degree. Worked his way up Beginning as an intern in the LSU athletics department, Ausberry served in several different roles before being named athletic director. He was promoted from associate athletic director to senior athletic director in 2006 and received another promotion 10 years later in 2015 when he became deputy athletic director. Multi-sport knowledge Ausberry comes from a football background but has helped oversee multiple sports at LSU over the years. He served as the sport administrator for LSU football, gymnastics and women’s basketball in his role as deputy athletic director, and he was previously an administrator of men’s basketball and track and field. Former LSU linebacker Longtime LSU football fans are familiar with Ausberry, who was the team’s starting middle linebacker in the late 1980’s. Ausberry led LSU’s defense in tackles twice and was a four-year letterwinner. LSU had success on the field with Ausberry, winning two SEC championships and appearing in four bowl games. From Louisiana
