VENTNOR — Work on the Dorset Avenue bridge over the next week will require several bridge opening tests, which could result in traffic delays, police said.
Police said in a Facebook post that the tests were to begin Friday and continue through most of next week.
Police advised motorists and residents to expect traffic delays if the bridge is raised.
The 100-year-old bridge has experienced some issues, most recently this summer, when repairs to the computer system controlling its opening and closing were needed in July. That caused the bridge to remain in the down position, and marine traffic for larger boats was unavailable in July.
The bridge, which spans a section of the Intracoastal Waterway, is owned by Atlantic County.
In August, the city’s mayor and commissioners underscored the importance of the bridge, which connects Ventnor Heights to the rest of Absecon Island and supports “residents, businesses, emergency services and visitors,” and said they are looking for solutions to the mechanical and electrical issues affecting the bridge.
