Venkatesh Prasad to run for Karnataka cricket president with Kumble, Srinath backing

Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad on Tuesday confirmed that he will contest for the president’s post in the upcoming KSCA elections. The move marks a major development in Karnataka cricket’s administrative landscape, as Prasad’s panel — which includes former cricketers and experienced administrators — has received open support from stalwarts Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath. The elections are scheduled for November 30, with nominations accepted until November 16. The current Raghuram Bhatt-led administration’s term ended on September 30, paving the way for a new leadership contest. Prasad’s panel includes Sujith Somasundar (vice-president), Vinay Mruthynjaya (secretary), A.V. Shashidhar (joint secretary), Madhukar (treasurer), and Avinash Vaidya (institutional member from Bengaluru Zone).Prasad said his aim is to rebuild the cricketing culture and infrastructure in Karnataka, reminiscent of the 2010–2013 period when Kumble, Srinath, and he served in key administrative roles. “We need to get cricket back to Chinnaswamy Stadium,” Prasad said, calling for “an administration free of back-seat driving.” He added that the focus will be on improving facilities at district centres and creating a structure that prioritises cricketing growth over politics.Kumble, who served as KSCA president during that successful phase, expressed confidence that Prasad’s panel could restore Karnataka cricket’s lost shine. He said that the motivation behind supporting Prasad’s team comes from a shared desire to “make a difference” after years of administrative stagnation. “It’s about bringing back pride to Karnataka cricket,” Kumble said, noting that the state once stood as a powerhouse second only to Mumbai in Ranji Trophy success..preferred-source-banner{ margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom:10px;}Both Kumble and Srinath highlighted the need for greater inclusivity, better infrastructure, and more representation of Karnataka players in national teams. With cricket development at the core of their campaign, the Prasad-led group hopes to bring fresh direction and accountability to the state’s cricket administration.- EndsPublished By: Debodinna ChakrabortyPublished On: Nov 11, 2025
