The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) on Saturday introduced six new low-floor buses, connecting farming villages with key towns like Walajah, Arcot, Katpadi, Sholinghur, and Gudiyatham. Accompanied by Mayor Sujatha Anandakumar and Vellore MLA M. Karthikeyan, D.M. Kathir Anand, Vellore MP, flagged off the new buses at the new bus terminus, off Chennai - Bengaluru Highway (NH 48), bringing relief to hundreds of commuters especially persons with disabilities in the villages of these districts. “The new buses will also accommodate more number of commuters with adequate space in it. These buses will provide hassle-free travel for students, office-goers, and traders,” said F. Hemanath, a commuter. TNSTC officials said that the new low-floor buses are beneficial especially for persons with disabilities as these buses have a kneeling facility for wheelchair ramps. Of the total six buses, three buses will operate in Vellore district including between Katpadi and Bagayam, navigating areas under Vellore Corporation limits. New bus on this route will have a maximum number of 18 trips per day. The remaining three new buses will cover towns like Arcot, Walajah, and Sholinghur in Ranipet district with at least 10 trips every day. On the occasion, S. Bennet, General Manager, TNSTC (Vellore Region), and R. Srinivasan, Deputy GM (Commercial), TNSTC, were present.
