Considered one of Las Vegas’ best-value casinos and located less than a mile east of center-Strip, Ellis Island has completed the first phase of its $35 million expansion and renovation. The casino floor has nearly doubled in size and is almost unrecognizable, with the old center bar gone and a new bar in the expanded area. There’s also a new facade out front with 1,200 square feet of LEDs and a renovated portico. The second phase is in progress and has already yielded a stunning rooftop bar called The Deck, and the relocated Boomer’s sports book will open soon. When completed, the total project will have added 35,000 square feet to the property. Cigar extinguished: After more than 20 years in operation, the Casa Fuente Cigar Bar in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace has closed. The Montecristo Cigar Bar located in Caesars Palace remains open. Sphere smashes: Sphere Entertainment reports that it has sold the one-millionth ticket to its immersive giant-screen “Wizard of Oz.” With an average ticket price of $130, that’s revenue of $130 million for ticket sales alone, with additional revenue from food, drinks, retail, parking and advertising added on. The 75-minute experience stuns with the original film supercharged with souped-up visuals and sound, vibrations and even wind. Casino run: Two men who were runners-up on Season 35 of “The Amazing Race” have set a Guinness World Records by gambling in 115 casinos in 24 hours, destroying the previous record of 74. The pair used e-bikes to move from casino to casino, where they were required to place a bet on a table game or electronic table game for the visit to count in the tally. Question: Is Las Vegas still a 24-hour town? Answer: It is for casinos, bars, most convenience stores and some restaurants. You can also find 24-hour pharmacies and laundromats. However, it’s not like it used to be when many more of each of these operated around the clock and grocery stores were included on the list.
