Hindus place significant importance on culture and traditions. Beliefs and emotions have been integral to human practice since the beginning of human existence. Consequently, from the moment of birth, certain beliefs and basic principles guide daily life, including checking for auspicious times before undertaking important events.
It is customary for Hindus to check omens before embarking on any journey. Even the most careful individuals can sometimes make mistakes, knowingly or unknowingly. Those knowledgeable in Vastu and Astrology understand how these elements affect their lives. This has led to many people having an intriguing question, which is important to address.
When travelling, Hindus often wait at home, travel long distances, and start their vehicles only after observing the auspicious time, including performing vehicle puja. Despite these preparations, mistakes can still occur once on the road. Travellers may take wrong routes to avoid traffic signals or follow ambulances to bypass traffic jams. Additionally, in haste, some may follow funeral vehicles. Is this practice auspicious or inauspicious? Here’s what the pundits say.
Many believe that following an ambulance or a funeral vehicle will help them travel faster. However, Balasubramaniam Sharma, the chief priest of Visakhapatnam, asserts that this is incorrect. He advises against going behind ambulances to avoid signals, stating it is not good for drivers.
Sharma emphasises that following an ambulance carrying people in an emergency is inappropriate. He advises maintaining distance when attending auspicious and divine functions.
Historically, four people would carry the body of a deceased person. Nowadays, due to the distance of crematoriums in cities, bodies are transported in carts or even ambulances, which sometimes carry the deceased.
Thus, it is considered inauspicious to follow ambulances and funeral vehicles. Priests recommend staying away from such vehicles, especially if there are children, pregnant women, or elderly people in the household, as it is believed to bring bad luck.
