Varun Dhawan On Sunny Sanskari’s Box Office Clash With Kantara: ‘It’s A Very Big Film But…’

Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor are gearing up for the release of their romantic comedy film ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’, directed by Shashank Khaitan. The film is set to hit the theatres on October 2, and it is a significant date as it coincides with Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti. The film will lock horns at the box office with Kannada magnum opus ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ starring Rishab Shetty, which is also releasing on the same date. Varun Dhawan has now reacted to his film’s box office clash with Kantara: Chapter 2, and said that he believes there’s room for all kinds of films.

While speaking at the India Today Conclave 2025, Varun Dhawan said, “Honestly, while setting the release date, Dharma Productions, who have been making films for so many years, picked October 2. It’s a huge date because it’s both Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti. So, overall, the business expected on this day will be much bigger than a normal Friday. Almost Rs 70 crore worth of business is available to be done in Hindi alone.”
Speaking about Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’s box office clash with Kantara: Chapter 1, Varun acknowledged that Rishab Shetty starrer is a huge film. “Obviously, ‘Kantara’ is a very big film. The first one was amazing. I loved it myself. But our film is very different. I think there’s more than enough space for all kinds of films,” he said.

Directed by Shashank Khaitan, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari follows Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s characters, Sunny and Tulsi, as they attempt to win back their former partners, played by Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf. The situation sets the stage for a playful journey in which Sunny and Tulsi will team up and pretend to be a couple to make their exes jealous. The film also stars Maniesh Paul and Akshay Oberoi in supporting roles. It will hit the theatres on October 2, 2025.
