Uzbekistan to launch AI cluster at New Uzbekistan University - Daryo.uz

An artificial intelligence (AI) cluster operating on the “network–university–partner” model will be launched at New Uzbekistan University. According to the university’s First Vice-Rector, Bahodir Ahmedov, the initiative aims to train both students and teachers in AI. Special educational programs will be introduced, and 1,400 talented students from across Uzbekistan will receive in-depth training in the field. Of these, 50 of the most outstanding students will be given the opportunity to continue their studies in the United States. As part of the initiative, AI laboratories will be established at 19 universities across the country. The new cluster at New Uzbekistan University will serve as a central hub, connecting academic institutions and industry partners to drive research, innovation, and practical applications in artificial intelligence. “The cluster will operate on the basis of industrial and international partnerships, becoming a foundation for the development of other AI laboratories in Uzbekistan,” Ahmedov said. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of this effort, noting that although more than 2,000 specialists are trained annually in related fields, none of the universities currently have dedicated AI laboratories. He proposed the establishment of such labs in 10 higher education institutions to fill this gap and ensure hands-on learning opportunities. Additionally, it was announced that state grant quotas for programs in artificial intelligence, fintech, cybersecurity, IT engineering, aerospace, and cloud technologies will be increased by 35%, reflecting the government’s commitment to advancing digital education and innovation. The launch of the AI cluster at New Uzbekistan University is expected to accelerate the country’s efforts to develop homegrown technological talent and foster stronger ties between academia, industry, and international partners.
