Uzbekistan set to receive first 100 electric buses from China, part of 200-unit delivery – Daryo.uz

The new batch of electric buses has been dispatched from China to Uzbekistan, marking a key step in the country’s efforts to modernize its public transport system, according to the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan.
The initiative is being implemented under the state program “Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy”, part of the broader “Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy. The program aims to build an environmentally friendly transport network in Tashkent and other major cities.
According to the plan, a total of 200 electric buses and their supporting infrastructure will be purchased in 2025. Following a competitive selection process, China’s Yutong Bus won the contract.
The first batch of 100 electric buses has already been sent from Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan via the Khorgos border crossing. Authorities expect delivery of all 200 buses to be completed by the end of September 2025.
Recent Deliveries to the Regions
Uzbekistan has already begun strengthening its bus fleet in several regions with vehicles from Chinese manufacturers:
Bukhara received 24 Zhongtong buses in May, while another 12 were expected by the end of June.Urgench added 30 modern Zhongtong buses earlier this year.Namangan received 30 Zhongtong buses in March.Angren received 15 Yutong buses.
Deputy Minister of Transport Ilhomjon Abdugafarov recently met with a delegation led by Chen Huaiyu, Chairman of the Board of the Export-Import Bank of China. The parties discussed expediting negotiations and signing a loan agreement to finance the purchase of the 200 electric buses.
Talks also touched on a larger project to supply an additional 1,000 buses to Uzbekistan in the future. In addition, Yutong is considering participation in the modernization of public transport infrastructure in Karakalpakstan.
