The Fifth Tashkent Anti-Corruption Forum convened in Uzbekistan, gathering more than 250 participants, including government officials, civil society representatives, and international experts to strengthen cooperation and dialogue in the global fight against corruption. Held under the theme “From Discussions to Real Change,” the forum stressed Uzbekistan’s determination to turn anti-corruption commitments into practical outcomes. The event was organized under the auspices of the National Council on Anti-Corruption and the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan, with support from key international partners such as the European Union (EU), GIZ, OECD, OSCE, UNDP, and the U.S. Department of State. The plenary session opened with remarks by Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairperson of the National Council on Anti-Corruption, and Akmal Burkhanov, Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency. Both highlighted the government’s progress in implementing reforms that promote integrity and transparency. Representatives from the EU, GIZ, UNDP, OECD, OSCE, and the U.S. praised Uzbekistan’s achievements while outlining remaining challenges in areas such as public procurement, conflict of interest regulation, asset declaration, and whistleblower protection. They also stressed the essential role of civil society and a free press in ensuring accountability and sustaining reform momentum. The forum’s thematic sessions centered on three core elements vital to successful public sector reform: modern instruments, effective procedures, and skilled human resources. The first session explored the growing use of artificial intelligence in detecting and preventing corruption, sharing global experiences and Uzbekistan’s plans in this field. The second session examined compliance control as a preventive mechanism in both public and private sectors, showcasing international best practices to strengthen Uzbekistan’s compliance systems. The third session emphasized the importance of capacity building, focusing on training and education to empower public servants to implement anti-corruption tools effectively in their daily work. Experts and practitioners from countries including China, Egypt, Georgia, Germany, Japan, Lithuania, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, and the United Arab Emirates contributed their insights and shared practical approaches. Over the years, the Tashkent Anti-Corruption Forum has evolved into a leading regional platform for advancing good governance and sustainable development. Its fifth edition marks another step in Uzbekistan’s growing role as a regional driver of integrity-focused reforms and collective action against corruption setting the stage for deeper national and international cooperation in the years ahead.
