Uzbekistan and Serbia Strengthen Economic Ties - UzDaily.uz

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Serbia and Uzbekistan continue to deepen political and institutional cooperation aimed at developing economic relations, fostering business community interaction, and implementing joint projects in third-country markets, according to the Serbian Chamber of Commerce. Special attention at the Serbian-Uzbek Business Forum in Tashkent, held during the official visit of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to Uzbekistan, was given to Uzbekistan’s participation in the upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade. This event is seen as an additional stimulus for promoting the national economy and strengthening ties with Serbia and regional partners. The forum brought together over 80 Uzbek and 12 Serbian companies representing the construction, agriculture, IT, metallurgy, and defense sectors. President Vučić invited Uzbek companies to invest in Serbia, highlighting the country’s stable economic environment, predictable tax system, and wide range of investment incentives. “Serbia has created a stable and encouraging business environment, and companies from Uzbekistan can always count on our support. I am confident that we can build strong mutual trust and jointly enter third-country markets,” Vučić said. He emphasized the high potential for cooperation with Uzbekistan in ICT, education and science, healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, textile production, and agriculture. The Serbian delegation was led by Deputy Chairman of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Mihailo Vesović and Vice President Ivan Bošnjak. Vesović noted that the forum demonstrates steady strengthening of economic relations between the countries and provides Serbian companies an opportunity to showcase their capabilities in Central Asia. “According to the Statistical Office of Serbia, trade turnover between the countries reached 29 million US dollars in Q2 2025, nearly three times higher than the same period last year. This dynamic reflects growing interest and significant prospects for further cooperation,” he said. During the forum, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Chambers of Commerce of Serbia and Uzbekistan, outlining the framework for expanding bilateral economic interaction, sharing information, and supporting entrepreneurs. Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev emphasized that the forum provided an important platform for strengthening trade, economic, and investment ties, confirming a high level of trust and long-term commitment to developing cooperation between the two countries. The Serbian delegation also visited Tashkent Technopark to explore Uzbekistan’s leading industrial sectors, including automotive, pharmaceutical, chemical, textile, defense, construction, and mining industries. The business forum marked a significant step in deepening economic relations and served as a platform for developing joint projects across multiple sectors of the economy.
