US talk show hosts including Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon have spoken out against the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel following remarks he made about Charlie Kirk.

They are now also facing threats from the Trump administration, the latest in America’s free speech row.

The head of The Federal Communications Commission, Brendan Carr has said that TV companies could do this “the easy way or the hard way” in complying, hoping other broadcasters would follow ABC’s lead.

Protests against Donald Trump’s media crackdown have been taking place on Hollywood Boulevard and outside Disney studios.
