The US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Ambassador Sergio Gor, and US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau arrived in Uzbekistan on October 25, the US Embassy in Tashkent reported. According to the embassy, the purpose of the visit is to discuss trade and investment in critical minerals and energy sectors, as well as issues related to C5+1 regional cooperation. On October 25, Sergio Gor and Christopher Landau held productive discussions with representatives of US companies about various opportunities to enhance mutual prosperity. Today, October 26, they became acquainted with Uzbekistan’s rich history and culture. Photos published by the embassy show the US officials visiting the Center of Islamic Civilization and the Chorsu Bazaar in Tashkent. They were accompanied by Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov and US Ambassador to Uzbekistan Jonathan Henick. For reference, Sergio Gor was born in Tashkent on November 30, 1986, and later received his education in the United States. He has been active in politics within the Republican Party and is known as one of Donald Trump’s close associates. Gor previously served as Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office and was involved in several political campaigns. On August 22, 2025, Donald Trump nominated him for the position of US Ambassador to India. He is currently serving as the US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia. It is worth noting that on September 22, 2025, during the 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Sergio Gor, the US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, at his residence in New York.
