US politics live: Donald Trump to run Gaza under shock new plan

On Monday, US time, President Trump met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House where he unveiled a surprise US-led peace plan.

It goes back on some of the US President’s more head-scratching thoughts on Gaza, including that all residents would be expelled and a resort built on the ruins.

The revised plan for “New Gaza” states that Palestinians should remain, with it being “rebuilt for Gazans”.

The plans also envisages both Hamas and the Israeli military leaving Gaza – to be replaced by a transitional authority headed by, yes, Mr Trump.

But Hamas has yet to sign up to any such plan.

Meanwhile, investigations are continuing into a deadly shooting at a Mormon church in Michigan on Sunday, US time, which killed four.

Mr Trump said it “appears to be yet another targeted attack on Christians”.
