A road and roundabout outside Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge has reopened, after a closure was put in place to widen the carriageway and paths. Fendon Road and the roundabout it leads to, situated to the east of the hospital, are now open to traffic. Overnight closures are likely, as new traffic signals are put in place and path-widening work is completed. The project carried out by the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) is aimed at improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists. A GCP spokesperson explained: "Fendon Road and Addenbrooke's roundabout are both now fully open and resurfacing has been completed as part of the Greater Cambridge Partnership scheme. "At Addenbrooke's roundabout, we’ve reduced the central island, allowing us to widen the carriageway and in turn widen paths and crossings for people walking and cycling. "Our next step is to put in place new permanent traffic signals and carry out the last bit of path widening. This may require some night time closures on the roundabout which we are in the process of being finalised. "We anticipate that the entire project will complete later this year. The result will be improved safety for people walking and cycling and a roundabout that’s much easier to navigate." The GCP also clarified that other companies have been working in the area, and that this work is separate to its project.
