Unsafe complexes identified in Koraput; admin orders action

Koraput: Days after a two-storey shopping complex collapsed, claiming the life of a shop owner, the district administration has launched a comprehensive inspection of all commercial complexes in Koraput town to ensure public safety.

The decision comes after concerns were raised over the condition of several ageing structures. A special independent team has been formed to carry out the inspection. Starting Sunday, the team started examining all old shopping complexes across the town to assess their safety and structural stability.

Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Tapan Kumar Nayak Sunday evening confirmed that the drive identified unsafe complexes and stated that all such structures deemed unsafe would be immediately shut in order to prevent any untoward incident.

“The safety of the public is our top priority. Any commercial complex found to be structurally weak or unsafe will be sealed without delay. At the same time, we will make alternative arrangements for shopkeepers and business owners affected by these closures,” the ADM assured.
