Unrivaled Keeps Fans in the Lurch After $1.5 Million Star’s Participation Remains Uncertain

Unrivaled Keeps Fans in the Lurch After $1.5 Million Star's Participation Remains Uncertain

“We had success in year one, and we have even bigger plans for year two,” said Napheesa Collier during an interview in regards to Unrivaled. The 3 v 3 women’s basketball league founded by the Lynx star and Breanna Stewart is barely a year old. However, its rapid rise has already positioned it as one of the boldest experiments in women’s basketball. As of now, it boasts a $340 million valuation, major investors that include a few celebrity names, and 36 players already signed for Season 2. Unfortunately, with the next season 3 months away, one major name from last season has yet to confirm her place within the league.
A few hours ago, the official X account of ‘Unrivaled’ put out a statement from the league’s GM, Clare Duwelius. The GM highlighted her excitement over the players who have already signed for Season 2. Before the league makes its upcoming major announcement in Philadelphia, however, Duwelius wanted to explain the delay in the announcement of the remaining players. Through the statement, she explained that “A few of the players we’re in productive negotiations with just need a little extra time- and we’re all about giving our athletes the space to make big decisions on their own terms. That means we’ve still got two roster spots, and we can’t wait to share who will be filling them soon.”

This statement fails to provide any clarity on Angel Reese’s availability. The Chicago Sky star had been one of the highlights of last year’s Unrivaled season. She was the 17th highest scorer of the season amongst a group of 39 players, as she averaged 13.3 points. However, she led the pack with rebounds, averaging an astonishing 12.1 rebounds, along with 1.9 assists. As a member of Rose BC, she scored the very first points in the team’s history, became the first player in Unrivaled to achieve a 20–20 game after scoring 22 points and 21 rebounds, and led her teammates to a championship win. Reese’s memorable performance over the course of 14 games allowed her to be named to the All-Unrivaled Second Team and was awarded Unrivaled’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Reese’s defensive skills earned her praise from her Rose BC teammate Chelsea Grey, who said, “Double-double machine. She’s somebody who has a knack for rebounding and just goes after it. It’s really hard to do that consistently. It’s a lot on your body. It’s a mindset that you have to have, and it’s one she’s had this whole time.”

Having left such a memorable mark, Angel Reese can not be present for the upcoming season of Unrivaled. Therefore, netizens didn’t take too kindly to the lack of updates from the league about the Chicago Sky star.
WNBA and Unrivaled Fans Question The Lack Of Update On Angel Reese
One social media user wrote, “@chloepeterson67 I don’t understand the Undrivaled statement? Only 2 players are worthy of large contract negotiations in Wnba. Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. Why are unrivaled sending mixed messages?”

Another name that has been linked to Unrivaled, but only through rumors as of yet, has been that of Caitlin Clark. The Indiana Fever star had earlier refused to play in the first season of the 3 v 3 league, despite reportedly being offered $1 million. During the 2025 WNBA season, she missed her first matchups since high school and played in only 13 games. Therefore, if her health allows, the 3 v 3 league could provide a key opportunity for Clark to get some reps in after having missed so many games. Recent sources have revealed that Clark, who shares the same agent as Unrivaled co-founder Napheesa Collier, is not one of the two players.
One individual wrote, “Unrivaled is gonna be hard to watch with no Angel Reese 🌹. Come on Angel don’t do this to us. Unrivaled and fans needs your oxygen.” Not only did Angel Reese lead the league in rebounds, she also tallied a team-high eight blocks for the Rose. In fact, her defense was an anchor for the Rose. Her contribution helped the team to finish the regular season with the best scoring defense in the league, as they allowed only 65.2 points per game.
One social media user wrote, “Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark are unrivaled” will feed families. Will be waiting patiently!!” It is no secret that Caitlin Clark’s presence has had a major effect on the WNBA’s viewership rate, on the sale of merchandise, and ticket sales, etc. When combined with the narrative of her on-court rivalry with Angel Reese, there is a certain surge of popularity. Back in May 2025, a game between Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever and Angel Reese’s Chicago Sky drew an average of 2.7 million viewers. This made it the most-watched WNBA game on ESPN platforms. Therefore, a Reese vs Clark matchup on Unrivaled can do wonders for ratings. More if they end up on the same team.
One individual wrote, “My life will finally calm down next month so I will be making my Angel Reese 5 shirt to wear to unrivaled”. Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart are already eyeing expansions. During a recent interview on the ‘First We Meet’ podcast, Stewart said “You know, we were able to plan this facility where we could hold probably 3 to 5,000 people, but we want 20, 25 on a nightly basis, and paying everybody seven figures.” To help in that surge in popularity, the co-founders need to give the people what they want. What they want right now is the $1.5 million worth Chicago Sky star.
One social media user wrote, “If Angel Reese is not in unrivaled I’ll actually kms 😐“. Unrivaled had reportedly averaged 221,000 viewers across the regular season and playoffs on games simulcast on TNT and truTV. If Angel Reese is not included in Unrivaled, it will be known just how much she impacted viewership.

Overall, the majority of reactions saw people united in demanding Angel Reese’s presence in the 3 v 3 league. Given that Reese had nothing but praise for Unrivaled, there is a good chance she makes herself available for the same. Whether that turns out to be the reality is something that remains to be seen.
