The Group A equations of Asia Cup 2025 have come down to match No. 10 between Pakistan and United Arab Emirates and the winners of this contest will book their berth in Super 4 stage along with Team India. Both Pakistan and UAE are currently on 2 points each while Team India have already ensured their progress with two wins in two matches to garner 4 points.
Pakistan are coming into this ‘do-or-die’ contest amid plenty of distractions after ‘Handshake row’ in their last game against arch-rivals India. Suryakumar Yadav’s Indian team refused to shake hands of Pakistan cricketers after their Group A match on Sunday.
In response Pakistan Cricket Board chairman and Asia Cricket Council President Mohsin Naqvi threatened to pull out of the tournament if match-referee Andy Pycroft was not removed from the remaining Pakistan matches. It is now reliably learnt that while ICC have refused to remove former Zimbabwe cricketer Pycroft from the tournament he will be replaced by former West Indies captain Richie Richardson as the match-referee for the remaining matches.
Pakistan who skipper their pre-match press conference amid all this uncertainty went through their paces at the ICC Academy along side Team India’s practice session. Coming to the match Pakistan are unlikely to make any changes to their playing 11 in spite of continued failure of opener Saim Ayub at the top after he scored back-to-back ducks.
UAE also look like a settled team led by opener Muhammad Waseem who completed his 3000 runs in T20I cricket in the win over Oman earlier this week.
