United Airlines’ list of which flights will be cut, which won’t

In addition to a full list of hundreds of United Airlines flights set to be canceled Friday through Sunday as part of the Federal Aviation Administration-directed flight cuts, the Chicago-based airline also said certain routes and flights will remain on schedule. The flight schedule update come after the FAA directed 10% of flights across 40 major airports to be cut as air traffic controller shortages continue amid the longest government shutdown in history. "The FAA’s goal is to relieve pressure on the aviation system so that every airline can continue to operate safely," United said in a message on its website. "That is the FAA’s highest priority, and ours as well. No matter what environment we’re operating in, we won’t compromise on safety." Thursday, United released a full list which routes and flights would be canceled Friday through Sunday, with more than 100 in and out of O'Hare in total canceled. In the same message, the airline also laid out what flights and schedules it will not cut. According to United, flight schedule reductions will focus on "regional flying and domestic mainline flights" that do not travel between United Airlines' seven U.S. hubs. It also said long-haul international flying will not be impacted. "United’s long-haul international flying will not be affected, nor will flights that connect our hub airports: Chicago O’Hare, Denver, Houston Intercontinental, Los Angeles, Newark Liberty International, San Francisco and Washington Dulles," the message said. While hub-to-hub travel won't be impacted, the airline said, it will make "rolling updates" to its schedule in an effort to give customers advance notice. Local "We'll use our app, website and push notifications to communicate to customers directly if their flight changes, and to offer rebooking options," United said. "We want to provide them with as much information as we can and in a way that's simple and easy to understand." United also said refunds were eligible for passengers during this period, even if their flights aren't impacted. "That includes non-refundable tickets and Basic Economy tickets." Overall, United has canceled more than 100 flights each day, from Friday, Nov. 7 through Sunday, Nov. 9, the airline's website showed. Of those, 34 United flights scheduled to depart or arrive at Chicago O'Hare International Airport Friday were cut, with that number increasing to 38 Saturday. Sunday, 42 United flights in and out of O'Hare were canceled. United's full list of flight cancellations this weekend, which includes routes, times and flight numbers, can be found here. As of 9 a.m. Friday, a total of 78 flights at O'Hare were canceled, the Chicago Department of Aviation flight status website showed, with 18 cancellations at Midway, with more than a 150 delays across both airports. In a statement sent to NBC Chicago, the CDA said it is "monitoring the situation closely" as it awaits further details on potential impacts at Midway and O'Hare.
