“Unite Us for a Stronger Film Industry” – Martha Ankomah to NFA

Celebrated Ghanaian actress Martha Ankomah has called on the National Film Authority (NFA) to take the lead in uniting industry stakeholders for the growth and progress of Ghana’s film industry.
Speaking at the National Film Dialogue held yesterday at the University of Ghana, Legon, the actress emphasized the urgent need for collaboration among actors, producers, directors, and other creative professionals. According to her, unity is the key to elevating the industry to international standards and ensuring Ghana’s stories are told with authenticity and global appeal.
“We cannot progress if we continue to work in silos. The National Film Authority must create more platforms that bring us together so that as one united industry, we can compete with the world,” she said.
The event, organized by the National Film Authority, brought together leading voices in the film sector to discuss challenges and explore strategies for building a stronger, more sustainable Ghanaian film industry under the theme “accelerating industry development”.
The National Film Authority was officially inaugurated in December 2019 following the passage of the Development and Classification of Film Act, 2016 (Act 935). The Act was designed to regulate, promote, and support the growth of the film industry in Ghana.
The NFA has also launched initiatives like the “Shoot in Ghana” campaign, which seeks to attract international filmmakers while boosting local productions.
Martha Ankomah’s call for unity resonates strongly with the Authority’s mission to create a thriving industry that not only entertains but also contributes to Ghana’s cultural and economic development.
As conversations from the National Film Dialogue continue, many industry players are hopeful that the NFA will heed Martha’s call and strengthen efforts to unite the film fraternity for a brighter future.
